Overview
The Mariculture Research and Restoration Consortium (Mar. ReCon) is a collaborative partnership across diverse entities in Alaska’s mariculture industry formed to support and rebuild mariculture activities in areas impacted by the Exxon Valdez oil spill. The MarReCon supports restoration, habitat enhancement, and economic development research to benefit seaweed and shellfish farmers in regions that have been impacted by the oil spill, including Prince William Sound, Kachemak Bay, and Kodiak Island. Together with farmers, MarReCon research partners will address the top needs outlined in the Alaska Mariculture Development Plan to restore lost mariculture revenue and services to benefit those most impacted by the oil spill.
