Verifying that Alaska's Pacific Cod fishery is sustainably and responsibly managed
Certified Seafood International (CSI, formerly RMF) provides independent, third-party certification of Pacific cod fisheries in Alaska. Certification provides additional assurance and verification to buyers, markets, and stakeholders that seafood from Alaska is responsibly managed and sustainable. Currently, AFDF is the Client for the MSC and CSI certification of Pacific cod.
The Client Group, participating companies using MSC and CSI certification, reached broad industry agreement to support both certifications and distribute the costs based on catch by sector (Acceptable Biological Catch – ABC) throughout the fishery. Alaska’s Pacific cod fishery has maintained both certifications for all regions and gear types.
The Alaska cod fishery began its third annual surveillance audit in April 2026, with a final report expected in June. The current certificate is valid until May 30, 2028 and can be downloaded on the left side bar or viewed on the CSI website here.
