Sydney Almgren
Alaska Sea Grant State Fellow
Sydney joins AFDF as an Alaska Sea Grant State Fellow. She holds a BS in Environmental & Ecosystem Sciences from Washington State University (2021) and an MS in Fisheries from the University of Alaska Fairbanks (2025). Through her fellowship, Sydney will support and help further develop AFDF’s seafood sustainability certification program, SeaThrive.
Sydney has pursued environmental and fisheries related roles in Colorado, Idaho, and Wyoming, where she developed a further interest in sustainable fisheries and resource management. From high mountain streams to hatchery raceways, Sydney has seen fisheries at different scales, but is especially amazed at the significant and vital role fisheries play in the Alaska’s economy and culture. She hopes her graduate research and work as an Alaska Sea Grant State Fellow will contribute to the sustainable management of Alaska’s fisheries.
In her free time, Sydney enjoys being outdoors, especially to fish, forage, and camp. She enjoys spending time with her family, friends, and dog Copper. Sydney is located in Fairbanks.
